How do i return my face skin color back to normal or lighter?

I am an African American male and i was born dark skinned but the average dark skin. I used to have acne awhile back like 3 years ago and my mom gave me this cream that made my face black and just dark. People tell me all the time i get darker and its really annoying. Just need tips help on ways to get lighter than i am now.

    Chug a gallon of bleach! Lol jk avoid the sun and use some cocoa butter.
